Making Progress
By Jacquie Garner
The last time I blogged I was so overwhelmed with the check list in front of me. Doing a home study is not for the faint of heart! Getting the email saying it was all done and the notarized copy was coming in the mail, was one very exciting day!!! I literally jumped for joy! And not only is our home study complete, we also finished making a very important book. Our family profile book – a book that tells all about us as family.
In domestic adoption the usual path is to adopt a newborn baby. There are times when an older child, that’s not in the foster care system, needs adoption, but usually this path leads to adopting newborns. The process of being matched is when our adoption agency tells us about an unborn baby needing adoption, then we present ourselves to the birth parents. Our family profile book is given to the birth Mom (either a hard copy or pdf version) and it is something she/they can sit down and look at, as well as our file, and help her decide which family is best for her/their baby.
Now that the these two projects are complete, we are ready to present ourselves to situations that our agency tells us about. Being matched could happen anytime. It could be really soon, or still take several months or years. While waiting to be matched, our next big project is fundraising.
We are making progress and we are so excited! Hopefully very soon we will be bringing home our baby/child #3!
